Wow, interesting news! I have Chrome installed on Linux for situations when Firefox fails, such as the US Postal Service Click 'n' Ship website. Only forcing a browser provided profile on these browsers makes for decent colours on Linux. It is possible that Chromium based browsers have broken colour management on Linux because the process is similar to what you have described in Windows. Thanks for putting an effort to explain how it works on Windows.

If setting the monitor profile to sRGB (either in Windows colour settings on in the Vivaldi/Chrome Force Color Profile flag) makes things better then something else is wrong. In Vivaldi you have the same setting at: vivaldi://flags/#enable-color-correct-rendering On some systems such as my Dell XPS 15, the LUTs get reset irritatingly often and I have to re-run the program to load the LUTs.) (There should be a program run at startup something like "xrgamma" or "Calibration Loader" or similar to load the LUT into the video driver.
Not sure about Chrome, but Vivaldi is definitely up to date on my PC. Neither Chrome nor Vivaldi recognise that flag on my PC. I don't think this flag is used any more. On Chrome you go to chrome://flags/#enable-color-correct-rendering I dug a little more and both newer Chrome (after v61) and Vivaldi can and need to be configured and probably you did not see that because either it came set to sRGB or you don't have a wide gamut screen.

Some programs have options to override the image or monitor profile, but unless there are good reason for not using the embedded profile and the default monitor profile then any such settings are best left at default values. The program takes the image profile (embedded in the image) and takes the monitor profile (by asking Windows) and maps colours from one colour space to the other. Normally, a colour-managed image rendering program doesn't need any settings. I may be wrong but I want to see a setting in Chrome Opera or Vivadli where colour space can be configured. I've just checked again, and both Chrome and Vivaldi are colour-managed. From what I know there are only 2 browsers that are fully colour managed :Firefox and then Safari.Ĭhrome is not colour managed and none of the browsers that are based on it: Opera, Vivaldi
